The Versatile Blogger Award

versatileblogger11

I started my blog for me, as a way to keep track of everything I cook, the classes I go to, recipes I modify and to keep me inspired to cook. And maybe also to justify my growing cookbook collection. I thought my Mum and a few friends would read it.

I wasn’t expecting to have people from all over the world reading and following my blog. I still write the blog for me, but I am continually excited and inspired by the fact that people are reading my blog, and liking what they read. So I was thrilled when The Peckish Kiwi nominated my blog for The Versatile Blogger Award.

The rules for this award are as follows:

Thank the person who gave you this award (done – thanks again).

Include a link to their blog. Here it is http://thepeckishkiwi.com/

Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award.

Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

Here, in no particular order are my 15 nominations of blogs I follow or have recently discovered and liked posts on.

Hiking photography – breathtakingly beautiful photography.

My dear bakes – Cake decorating that inspires me.

Cupcakes always win – aside from the great name, beautiful photos and food.

Moon Pie Lullaby – a writer in culinary school learning to be a pastry chef.

Arctic grub – food from Norway. Not something I see a lot in Western Australia!

Daisy and the Fox – lots of baking and beautiful photos.

Stefi Jakab – another pastry chef in training. What can I say, I like reading about patisserie school.

Clairellyn’s Cupcakery – beautiful brush rose cookies.

The Little Spork – sweet and savoury recipes that I want to try.

Amanda Penny Cakes – a hospital doctor and Mum taking a year off and training for a diploma in patisserie. Amazing cake decorating/sugar modelling too.

Just enough sugar – Lots of baking and also studying to be a pastry chef.

Little bit sweet – baking tips and tricks

Bittersweet haven and other random stuff – baking and “other stuff”

Optimistic musings (of a pessimist) – great looking recipes. I want to try the chewy coconut oatmeal delights.

Southern girl, skinny kitchen – comfort food & healthy eating. I really want to try the hummingbird cookie recipe.

And now 7 facts about me:

  1. Until around the age of 15 I refused to wear jeans or anything made of denim. I can’t tell you why, I just wouldn’t wear it. At 15, after moving to a school that didn’t have a uniform just a dress code (black, white and grey) it became impossible to not wear jeans so I started wearing them. Today I love my jeans.
  2. I have three university degrees (2 Bachelors and a Masters).
  3. I really don’t like capsicum or (fresh) coriander. I will eat them if served them, but I don’t cook with them.
  4. Until I started doing musical theatre, I was as shy as a mouse. I’ve become more confident over the years and today the people I work with don’t believe that I was ever shy.
  5. Further to point 4, I don’t get nervous when I’m performing on stage in a musical, however I still get terribly nervous singing “as me” and at auditions.
  6. My genre of choice for reading, TV and movies (besides cooking of course) is science fiction/fantasy.
  7. I find I can’t drink anything alcoholic any more without getting a migraine. Not even one glass. So I no longer drink, which is a shame as I make a great death by chocolate cocktail!

  1. Thank you for the nomination! Wow, you’re a performer – that’s so interesting. I think I’d be absolutely terrified if I was ever on stage. I can hardly get up in front of people to sing karaoke unless I’m a few drinks in 🙂 Also, nice blog!

    1. You are very welcome. I am enjoying reading time at pastry arts school.

I love performing in musicals. Just local productions (non-professional) but it is my other passion (besides food and cooking). I thought I’d be terrified, but I found I wasn’t as I am not myself when I’m on stage, I’m the character I’m playing. It’s great fun.

I’m glad you like my blog 🙂

  2. Hey, thanks so much for nominating me! I’m extremely thrilled to have someone as talented as you following my blog, so thanks again 🙂 and three uni degrees thats impressive! I’m currently through my 2nd and hopefully will be done by the end of the year.

    1. You are very welcome. Thanks for following my blog :).

The third degree was definitely the hardest (I was also working full time at the time). I don’t think I would have been able to keep a blog going on top of finishing it! Good luck finishing your degree this year.

  3. Thank you so much for nominating my blog Arctic Grub! I really appreciate it! It was fun reading the facts about yourself, except I feel bad about #7! LOL 🙂

    1. You are very welcome! I really enjoy learning about the food of Norway through your blog. It isn’t something that I get to experience a lot of here in Perth. Don’t feel too bad about fact #7, at least I can still cook with alcohol! And there is never any arguments about who is the designated driver. 🙂

  4. Thanks so much for nominating Little Bit Sweet!! 🙂 Your #1 fact made me laugh. I was the same way as a kid!!! Now, I live in jeans or jean shorts. Funny how things change.

  5. thank-you so much for the award!! 😀
and congratulations of getting the award yourself – you deserve it! 🙂

    1. You are very welcome. There are some great sites out there! I am looking forward to following your progress through the patisserie diploma.

  6. aw Thank you so much for thinking of me and nominating me 🙂 Your blog is fantastic and I loved reading the 7 things about you. I can’t believe you have 3 university degrees, I’m more than ready to just be finished with one!! Also didn’t know that you were into musical theatre, I took that throughout high school and loved it, the thrill of performing in front of a live audience and feeding off of their energy is the best feeling! I wish I could see some clips of you performing 😛

    1. You are very welcome. I really want to try your blueberry cream cheese danish and white pizza recipes! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed reading my facts and thanks for your lovely comments about my blog. I was definitely ready to be finished by the time I was nearing the end of my Masters! No more uni for me, I’ve had enough now.

I love musical theatre (I am only involved in local non-professional productions, which we do just for the love of it). I haven’t performed in a show for almost a year and I’m really missing it and ready to get on a stage again! This blog has helped me find another creative outlet, but there is nothing like performing in front of a live audience and the feeling you get when you make them laugh or cry, knowing that you have reached them in some way. I don’t have any clips (copyright issues), but if I ever get any up I’ll put a link on my blog.

Looking forward to seeing what you cook next 🙂

  7. Wow, thank you so much for the nomination! And congratulations on getting the award yourself! 🙂 I have to say, I loved your 7 facts about yourself, particularly #1. It’s good to know I wasn’t alone in that desire to avoid jeans at all costs when I was young. Although I hope for your sake you didn’t go the hideous 80’s spandex leggings route like I did… *cringe*

    1. You are welcome, and thanks :). I’m glad you enjoyed my facts. I am very surprised by the number of people who also had an issue with jeans growing up! I have to say, I did avoid the spandex leggings.
